23 November – 12 December 2017
We are heading back to Antarctica on another photo workshop tour, but this time we’re also visiting the Falkland Islands and the subantarctic island of South Georgia. Join us on this photographic adventure!
Falkland Islands
We start in South America, and head to the Falkland Islands, where we explore some of this island group’s wildlife and history. Seals, penguins, whales, albatrosses, and many more wildlife opportunities abound.
South Georgia
From there we head further east to the island paradise of South Georgia. It’s a wildlife haven: albatrosses, petrels, penguins, fur seals, elephant seals, and more. We are visiting in prime season for wildlife activity, with lots of seal activity on the beaches. South Georgia also has some significant human history to explore, including the ruins of the whaling industry and explorers like Ernest Shackelton (visiting The Boss‘s grave is always a highlight). Some of the landscapes here are absolutely stunning also.

- Douglas Crag at sunset, at the southern end of South Georgia.
Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands
Eventually we will have to leave South Georgia, and we head off to Antarctica. We will see and photograph more wildlife (including some different penguin species) as well as the awesome antarctic environment.
- Photographers and iceberg
- This Adelie Penguin had this ice floe all to him/herself!
- So much blue!
In the end we have to drag ourselves away from Antarctica and we sail north across the Drake Passage back to South America. The whole adventure will take about 20 days, living aboard our ship as we travel.
Our workshop team
We will be taking a group of 18 photographers on this adventure. With two experienced photography instructors leading the group you will get plenty of opportunities for access to photographic subjects, instruction (both as a group and individually as suits your needs). As well as helping you with the “capture” side of the photography we can also help you with the “process” side, using software such as Adobe Lightroom on your laptop.
This photography workshop tour is being run in partnership with WildNature Photo Expeditions, and will be co-led by David Burren (LuminOdyssey) and Michael Snedic (WildNature). David has run multiple photography workshop tours in the past to Antarctica, the Falklands and to South Georgia, having visited Antarctica four times so far. David and Michael have been running workshops together since 2015.
In early 2016 David and Michael ran another successful Antarctic workshop. That trip spent most of its time along the Antarctica Peninsula. This time we spend a little less time in Antarctica itself, but the amazing paradises of the Falklands and South Georgia make this a special trip!

Incidentally, in December 2016 we’re going to a different group of subantarctic islands south of New Zealand (including Australia’s Macquarie Island). That subantarctic workshop will experience some of the same wildlife without having to travel so far from Australia, although on a slightly smaller scale to South Georgia. It also has unique landscapes and wildlife not found elsewhere. But unlike this trip it doesn’t visit Antarctica itself.
